Our Sustainability Commitment

The material: REPREVE® recycled performance fabric

All Salty Johnson swimwear is made from REPREVE®, a certified recycled performance fibre produced by Unifi, one of the world's leading recycled yarn manufacturers. REPREVE® transforms post-consumer plastic bottles into high-performance polyester that is stronger, more chlorine-resistant, and more durable than many virgin synthetics.

Each Salty Johnson garment uses approximately 11 recycled plastic bottles.

That's not an estimate, it's a verified figure. REPREVE® uses FiberPrint® technology, a proprietary tracer embedded in the yarn that allows independent verification of the recycled content in every garment. You can verify this at repreve.com.

What FiberPrint® means

FiberPrint® is a molecular traceability technology embedded directly into REPREVE® fibres at manufacturing. It allows:

•       Independent third-party verification of recycled content claims

•       Traceability from raw plastic bottle through to finished garment

•       Authentication that the recycled content claim is genuine, not greenwashing

When Salty Johnson says each garment contains approximately 11 recycled plastic bottles, that claim is backed by a certification technology — not a marketing team.

Performance, not compromise

Sustainable materials should perform better, not worse. REPREVE® delivers:

•       Chlorine resistance: colour and fabric integrity holds through repeated pool sessions

•       UPF 50+ sun protection: certified UV blocking for ocean and pool use

•       Fast dry: engineered for water shedding, not just aesthetics

•       Shape retention: elastane blend maintains structure over time

•       Soft hand feel: not the scratchy compromise of early-generation recycled synthetics

Packaging

We use minimal packaging. No unnecessary tissue paper, no decorative inserts, no single-use plastic bags. We're working toward fully compostable mailer bags across all orders, updates will be published here as we make progress.

Ocean conservation

As Salty Johnson grows, we are committing a portion of revenue to direct ocean conservation efforts in Australia. We will name our conservation partner and publish specific contribution figures on this page as those commitments are formalised. We don't make claims we can't verify, so watch this space.

Our sustainability standard

We will never make a sustainability claim we can't substantiate. If you have a question about our materials, certifications, or supply chain that isn't answered here, email us at salty@saltyjohnson.com we'll answer it directly.
